Health and safety training for young workers

OPSEU/SEFPO’s Provincial Young Workers Committee (PYC) aims to recruit eight workers under 35 for virtual Health and Safety Training. Additionally, each region, except Region 7, will nominate one member for free training.

The training spans two weeks: March 22, 25, 26, and March 27 to 28, 2024. Attendance in both weeks is mandatory, with provided time-off letters. Other expenses aren’t covered.

This initiative equips young workers with essential skills to support colleagues across sectors, ensuring workplace safety.

Benefits include meeting legal training obligations and enhancing working conditions by:

  • Clarifying legal rights and duties.
  • Strengthening joint health and safety committees.
  • Ensuring worker and supervisor competency.
  • Reinforcing workplace prevention programs.
  • Mitigating work-related hazards to reduce injuries and illnesses.

The training, conducted by Workers Health and Safety Centre (WHSC), features experienced instructors and interactive sessions. It fosters collaborative learning, enabling participants to devise practical workplace safety strategies.
