Saskatchewan construction company fined for workplace injury

Another Employer Fined for Fall Protection Violation

Saskatchewan employer Builder Brothers Construction Inc. has been fined $25,000 following a serious workplace incident involving a fall.

The incident occurred on July 5, 2022, near Hague, Saskatchewan, when a worker fell to the ground after removing slings from a set of trusses, resulting in serious injury.

On June 12, 2024, the company pleaded guilty in Rosthern Provincial Court to violating clause 9-2 (2) (a) of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. The clause mandates that employers ensure workers use a fall protection system in both temporary and permanent work areas where there is a risk of falling three meters or more. The failure to adhere to this regulation resulted in the worker’s serious injury.

The court fined Builder Brothers Construction Inc. $17,857.14 and added a surcharge of $7,142.86, bringing the total penalty to $25,000. Additionally, three other charges against the company were withdrawn.

This case underscores the critical importance of adhering to fall protection regulations to ensure worker safety and prevent such incidents.
